Caxton Hall was previously used by the Suffragettes as a base for the Women’s Social and Political Union, the leading political group in the fight for women’s rights. The WSPU has been linked to the organisation of hunger strikes, vandalism or arson. It is believed that Caxton Hall was used while the women members of the WSPU protested the male governing bodies of Westminster, notably through marches in Parliament Square.
